Barabar, Petts Wood

Wednesday 14th May 2014

You could be forgiven for missing Barabar, tucked away as it is, off Petts Wood’s main high street and hidden beneath scaffolding but that would be a shame, as it’s a real gem.

It’s a large modern looking restaurant and despite being early on a Wednesday evening, I could imagine it gets quite lively at weekends.  I know they often have live music and saw posters for an Elvis tribute which could be amazing!

For starter, I went for Shami Kebab.  These small minced beef patties, made with ground chickpeas and spices were a simple but tasty appetiser.

Lamb Haleem was the main course of choice.  This dish is also cooked in chick peas and lentils. It was really well spiced with warm ginger and the lamb was beautifully tender.  I’ve never had anything quite like this before and it was great.  Highly recommended.  Having said that, I did have some curry envy after another of our group ordered the Goan Lamb Shank.  This had rave reviews.

Petts Wood is blessed with a number of very good Indian restaurants but this has to be up there with the best of them

The atmosphere improved as more tables were filled.  It’s quite a large modern building and they have regular live music. The toilets were painted in Del Boy-esque florescent yellow!
