The Chilli Diaries Awards 2013

2013; another great year for The Chilli Diaries and its group of curry connoisseurs in our search for the best Indian restaurants Bromley has to offer.  Fourteen more were reviewed this year.  That makes thirty-four out of seventy-six known restaurants in the borough that have had the Chilli Diaries treatment.  Just four more years until we’ve done the lot!  Anyway, after our exhaustive search, we can now reveal who was top of the poppadams in 2013;

'THE CHILLI DIARIES INDIAN RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR'
Cinnamon Culture, Bromley

Culture Club. Manpreet Dhingra accepting the award

Cinnamon Culture is not the sort of place we originally envisaged reviewing for the Chilli Diaries.  This is the kind of fine dining that you would expect to find in central London, not little old Bromley.  But seeing as we are fortunate enough to have a restaurant of this calibre on our door step, it would be wrong to fail to acknowledge it.

Painstaking thought has gone into every element of this restaurant, from the stylish décor, the music and of course the unique dishes which go through a rigorous testing period which can take months.  A visit to this restaurant is an experience and we'd reccomend it to anyone who is excited by good food.

‘The CCB Curry House of The Year Award'
Village Cuisine, Farnborough

The Chilli Diaries associates ‘The Curry Connoisseurs of Bromley’ have a particular remit for their award.  This is one for the blokey blokes.  The best place to go for a Ruby Murray after a day’s drinking with your mates.  They expect a place to be high on flavour but it must also have a relaxed atmosphere and value for money.  Village Cuisine excels in all of these areas.

OTHER GONGS:

'The Classic Curry House Award' – Curry House, West Wickham
The name says it all.  This is a pretention-free 'old-school curry house'.  Ok, this place won’t be winning any Michelin stars but if you’re looking for a proper curry house, this is it!  They were also a whisker away from winning the CCB curry club award.

'Best Newcomer' – Wild Mango, Beckenham
Appearing on the site of the old Café Royal restaurant, this place is vibrant, colourful and modern.  It deserves to firmly establish itself amongst Bromley's curry scene. Ones to watch next season!

'Most Improved' – Spice Fusion, Biggin Hill
This is a restaurant that might previously been dismissed as style over substance.  But with high-end Shampan 4, just down the road, they appear to have upped their game.  Recommend the Korai gosht.

'Hottest Curry' - Wild Mango, Beckenham
Another shout for Wild Mango.  I had the Lamb Naga, ‘extra hot’ and it was a scorcher!  Undoubtedly the hottest curry this season.

'The VFM Award' – Village Cuisine
Village Cuisine also gets a second mention.  Their midweek banquet meal offers outstanding value for money considering the quality of food on offer.

'Wooden Spoon' – Homedale Tandoori, Bromley
This restaurant is neither modern nor traditional.  Devoid of any atmosphere and well overpriced.

SCORES ON THE TANDOORS
