Kingfisher Beer

Originating in 1857, Kingfisher is the granddaddy of Indian beers.  It’s a brand that to many of us will always be associated with curry and for thousands of Britons, Kingfisher is the drink to order with their favourite Indian food.
Kingfishers packaging has been updated slightly but the distinctive logo and green bottle are as recognisable as ever.

First impressions are good.  A pleasant golden colour with an ample white head.  The carbonation is steady and the appearance is inviting.

There isn't a lot of ‘hoppiness’ but it’s very refreshing and not as gassy as it looks.  Of course, these are ideal characteristics for a beer to drink with curry.  Served ice cold, it’s the perfect antidote to excesses of spicy food and won’t make you feel too bloated if you do over indulge.

Kingfisher beer conjures up images of the bay of Bengal on a hot summer evening, clasping a chilled glass and sipping its icy cold nectar.  But it’s just as handy for putting out the fire in your mouth caused by a vindaloo in Orpington.
