Pink Garlic, Bromley

Wednesday 11th June 2014

It was Bromley’s ‘new’ Indian restaurant, Pink Garlic that we paid a visit to this month.  The added punctuation is because Indian food has actually been served here for many years but in its previous incarnations  ‘Ruby’  and the short lived  ‘Indian Ocean’.  Both were good but could not survive the competition with popular Shampan 2, almost next door.

The restaurant looks smart with its colourful, modern front and stylish décor.  It was surprisingly busy considering it was midweek and the whole atmosphere was enjoyable.  The menu is impressive and there was such a great choice, I had real trouble narrowing it down!

I eventually went for salmon tikka for starter.  Great chunks of meaty fish bursting with smoky, spicy flavour.  As satisfying as chicken or lamb but not as heavy.  The main course was balti chicken jalfrezi.  Of course this is old fashioned curry house stuff but there is a refined touch here, with all sorts of flavours going on.  This is definitely above average cooking.

Pink Garlic are taking the fight to Shampan, with their welcoming atmosphere, smart surroundings and well thought out menu.  This place is very very good.

     MENU
                                 Pink Garlic

     MAIN:
Balti Jalfrezi (vindaloo hot), despite being an old school curry house classic, it was not basic at all and full of surprisingly delicate flavour.  Reccomended!

The menu was an interesting mix of curry classics and unusual options.  Plenty of choice, especially a for a ‘banquet night’.  The chef’s recommendations and signature dishes all look great.

Booking Name: Roger Milla
Pubs:  Over the road from the excellent Chatterton Arms
Highlight:  Generally good fun. Sorry, did they say chicken and chips as a starter?!
Lowlight:  The confusing waiters
Verdict:  Could well be a match for the Shampan.  Highly recommended.
