Curry Corner, West Wickham

Wednesday 9th April 2014

Curry Corner is set amongst West Wickham High Street’s mini curry-belt and as the name suggests, is an old school curry house.
The restaurant is smart, plain white walls and furnishings. Dated looking paintings.  Not particularly memorable but an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and welcome
To start, I went for lamb tikka.  Nice spice but the meat was a little tough.  For main course, I went for King Prawn Biryani.  This celebration dish was very enjoyable but you’ll need an appetite as the portion is huge!

This restaurant doesn’t hold many surprises but you won’t go far wrong either.  It’s a good solid curry house.

     MENU
Curry Corner

     MAIN:
Curry Corner Special Chicken, was very nice.  Decent enough Garlic Chilli Masala Lamb I thought. Good texture to the meat, the portion size was fine and the heat level was okay.

 STARTERS/
    SIDES:
Chicken Chaat, very good as was the King Prawn Butterfly but Lamb Tikka was pretty dry and tough.
  6/10
   VARIETY:
A fairly standard menu.  Adequate range of dishes on offer but nothing out of the ordinary.
  6/10
     HEAT:
The heat level was about right for "madras hot".
   3/5
   DRINKS:
Standard beers.  Only two fruit juices on offer.

    VENUE
   ATMOS:
Good old-school music and decor but the restaurant was very quiet.  We were the only ones there for most of the time.

   SERVICE:
The waiter was friendly enough and had a few wise cracks which kept us amused. But the service was a little slow at times
  7/10
   VALUE:
A bit disappointing that the banquet night was on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. The £26 per head including service wasn't bad though, especially as we got a drink on the house.
  7/10
  LOCATION:
Good high street location - parking was available and access via public transport was easy. At least two pubs nearby too.
   4/5
   BONUS:
Always nice to be offered a  complimentary drink.
   5/5

Booking Name: Daniel La Russo
Pubs:  The Wheatsheaf, just a few doors down.
Highlight:  The unashamedly old school style.
Lowlight:  The quiet midweek atmos.
Verdict:  A safe pair of hands.
