Bengal Butler, Biggin Hill

Saturday 17th November 2012

Before attention turns to naming Bromley’s best curry house this year, a few of us decided to squeeze one more review in.  We chose to visit Bengal Butler, a restaurant I’ve been to countless times while living in the area.

The Bengal was always pretty average but they have a new chef and a new menu and standards have clearly improved.  To start I had something the Bengal have always been famed for their ‘Chicken 65’.  Thinly cut strips of chicken in a light crispy batter,  fried with capsicum and lemon,  on a bed of salad and birds eye chilli’s.  It’s well spiced and the chilli’s really pack a punch.  I could easily eat a large plate of this dish for main course!

Chicken 65!

The main I did choose was Chicken Manchurian Chooza on recommendation from the waiter.  Chicken tikka sautéed with onion and tomato with ginger.  Although it was very hot as requested, it was delicately flavoured.  Vaguely Oriental in style and it came with a very thin sauce.  It needs to be eaten with rice to soak it up really.

There are some very good Indian restaurants in the Biggin Hill area and the competition has obviously made Bengal Butler up their game.  The new menu is really strong and they can now compete with the best.
