Spice Guru, Reigate

Thursday 13th June 2013

was my birthday last week so the missus and I visited Spice Guru in Reigate to celebrate.  The first thing you notice when approaching the restaurant is the funky signage which looks surprisingly old-school for such a posh area.

Similarly inside, the décor looks smart but rather tired.  I heard it used to be a Chinese restaurant and I wondered how much the interior has changed because it is all pretty nondescript.  It feels a little bit like a hotel and you could imagine any kind of cuisine being served in here.  Never-the-less, the atmosphere is pleasant enough and the bangra music gives some Eastern ambience.

Good chilli diaries points were earned straight away with a choice of six accompaniments for our poppadams. The spicy tamarind dip was especially good.

I started with Fish Tikka; barbecued chunks of salmon, served with green chutney.  The fish was juicy and beautifully spiced.  I loved it!  For main course, I went for Lamb gosht, which is a rich and savoury stew-like curry.  It was enjoyable though a little bland for my taste.
