Diwana, West Wickham

This week, West Wickham’s Diwana restaurant played host to ‘the CCB’.  An excellent banquet deal of 5 courses for £12.99 was impressive straight away and when they brought out poppadams with their lovely homemade lime pickle, Diwana were off to a flyer before the starter had even arrived!

When we did receive the starters, they continued to impress.  Sizzling tikka dishes turned heads and I had a shami kebab wrapped in a kind of omelette, which I’d never seen before but would definitely order again.

We chose a wide variety of main courses.  My chicken tikka saag, was really good and as I requested it ‘vindaloo hot’, it had a kick!  Included in the price were a rice or naan and a side dish.  I highly recommend the bhindi bhaji (okra) as a side dish.

If you can find room for a desert after all that, they are offered as part of the banquet deal.  I couldn’t face it though and chose coffee instead.  I was very full but very happy!

MENU:  This streamlined ‘old school’ menu has been fine-tuned over many years         8/10 

HEAT:  Vindaloo dishes were well spiced but not exactly scorching!                               6/10  

SETTING: Highly competitive High St, within spitting distance of 4 other curry houses   7/10

SERVICE:  Always on the ball and really attentive                                                             8/10

STAFF:  They are all very friendly and up for a joke!                                                         8/10 

DRINKS:  The usual’s.  Bottled cobra and Kingfisher                                                         7/10 

PRICE:  Excellent VFM!  Everyone had a few drinks and it worked out at £21 each         9/10 

ATMOS:  Modern and bright décor but retains its old school curry house atmosphere    8/10 

OPEN HRS:  12:00 - 14:30,   18:00 - 23:45                                                                          8/10

BONUS:  Complimentary ½ pint of cobra was offered.  Great value all round                   9/10

This is down-to-earth curry house fare.  If you like an old fashioned ruby, you can’t really fault it!
