'New India', Bromley

Saturday 10th March 2012

After a day on the beers in Bromley, a few of us eventually wandered into ‘New India’.  We found a less than warm welcome.

I had a chicken Dhansak, which I asked for ‘vindaloo hot’, the waiter refused, then changed his mind.  I know some waiters encourage you not to ‘spice up’ your curry if it will ruin the delicate flavour of the dish but I’ve always found dishes like Dhansak to be okay. The food was good and everyone enjoyed it. The place was let down by the atmosphere though. It’s very small and the tables were cramped together. We felt like the people at table next to us were listening to our conversations.

Yes we’d had a good few beers (and cider and a few Sambucca’s!) but we weren’t rowdy.  There was however an overwhelming feeling that we weren’t welcome.

The place is in Bromley town centre, opposite the lively O'Neills pub, so I'm sure they get their share of obnoxious drunks, turning up at midnight.  After all, they find it neccessary to state on their website that "The Management reserves the right to refuse to serve any customer".  I can see where the attitude comes from but it's lost them a lot of points!
